Area

After learning about Perimeter, it was time to move onto Area, 

the amount of space inside an object.

Each group of students had to find the area of a room in their house

in order to make a carpet that would fit their room.

First, each group chose a unit to measure with

and made an estimation of the area.  

Finding an appropriate unit took some time...they needed to lay flat and fit into the corners.

'These don't fit...they are piled on top of each other.'

'Our blocks are small, so it takes alot of them to fill in the area.'

'These blocks are big...it won't take too many.'

'There is still some space left...it will only fit half a block.'

'The snap cubes lay flat and fit into the corners...squares are a good shape to use...'

At the end of the day all of the rooms received beautiful new carpets and 

we all learned a lot about area.

Dash, Dot, and Sphero

Today we had the opportunity to learn from some students from Brennan.  

The Brennan students brought their robots, Dash and Sphero, and 

some 'Makey Makey' materials.

This is Sphero, a robotic ball toy.  Everyone had a chance to 

use an ipad to operate Sphero.

With just a few minutes of practice they were making Sphero

go through obstacles...

The students were able to hook up the alligator clips to the 

Makey Makey board.

One of everyone's favourites....Playing tag with Dash.

Everyone had a chance to use an ipad to control Dash.

What a great way to end the week!

The Last Supper

We were lucky enough to have some visitors from Chatham

come and bring some Bible stories to life in our classroom.

Father Daniel arranged these special presentations for us...Thanks Father!!

The students participated in an interactive retelling of the events leading

 up to Jesus' death on the cross.  

More Visitors...

The grade 7's came to break break with us, learning about

Jesus' last supper.  The students learned about Jesus' disciples, 

shared bread and grape juice, and learned about Jesus' last supper.
