Introduction to Money

Money, Money, Money!

Our next math unit is on money!!!  This unit is always a class favourite.

We will be identifying all of the Canadian coins and their amount; adding coins to $1 or 100 cents and making change for their pretend purchases.  

As an introduction to money we did a math project with ones, tens 

and hundreds on the place value charts.  They were able to "purchase" an item

and use base ten blocks to show the price and some students were already able

to show their price using coins!  

Team Building in Gym Class

The Iceberg Challenge

The students had to stay on their 2 "icebergs" and find a way to travel

from one end of the gym to the other without stepping off their 

"icebergs".  The first team to cross the finish line was the team that 

was able to find a way to work together quickly to solve the problem. 

Math Review Centers

As a way to finish off our unit on time we had some fun review centers today.

We...

put calendars in order by month and answered questions about them...

...we wrote about what time the clocks said...

...we solved riddles abut time....

...and did partner work with mini clocks.

We are ready to move on!!!

Story Writing FUN!

After reading the story, Dizzy, we talked about all the different ways the author

began his sentences.  He rarely used I and then to begin a sentence.  We 

tried to remember this as we began writing our own stories.

This is the story plan for our latest and greatest story!!

The first drafts of their stories are coming home in their journals tonight so they can show off a bit!

Harvest Fresh

For anyone who ordered a Harvest Fresh lunch for Wed. April 13 (the day of our field trip), you will be reimbursed for your order as we will not be at the school during the lunch hour.  

Your child is asked to bring a lunch from 

home to the field trip.

Field Trip notes and permission forms went home today with your children.  Please read the note and return the forms and money by Monday.  You can pay using schools online.

Light it up Blue

The eighth annual World Autism Awareness Day is April 2, 2016. 

SJV Celebrated World Autism Awareness Day today!  

We all wore blue and brought our 'light it up blue' rings

and pens to the assembly.
