Happy Valentine's Day!

Science Centers

Science Centers

This week we have been very busy doing science centers.
After reading a passage on the computer about how ducks stay dry,
the students did an experiment with oil and paper.

An animal habitat activity...

They pretended to be birds and tried out different beaks
to see which type of beak would be best to eat different types
 of foods.

Learning about animal life cycles...

What a fun week!

A visit from our grade 8 friends!

The grade 8's borrowed a basket full of storybooks to
look at before they began writing their own stories.
When their stories were complete, they came to read
their stories to us.  To add to the fun of the afternoon
Mr. B. popped up some popcorn for everyone!

Happy Friday!

100th Day of School

We decided to do something a little different for the 100th day of school.  Since they have been so interested in our science and literacy units on animals and non-fiction texts, the students came up with the idea of dressing up as animals.  We have been discussing different adaptations animals can have that help them survive so part of their animal costume had to involve some kind of adaptation (ex. a hooked beak to scoop up fish from the water, or sticky toes to make climbing easier).  They designed their costumes at school and crafted their accessories.  I was amazed at all of their great ideas.  While wearing their costumes, they went on a scavenger hunt around the school to find 100 animal names.  Of course we had to bring the animal names back to class and figure out the best way to organize the names to make sure we found all 100!
