Point Pelee Bird Presentation

Thanks to Mrs. Daragon, we were able to participate in a presentation on birds and migration.  To be prepared for the presentation we learned a bit about the wingspan of different birds.  We looked at different birds, like a peregrine falcon, bald eagle, blue heron, robin, etc. and measured using centimeters to find out what the length of each birds' wingspan really looked like.  We were amazed at how big some of them were.  We discovered that birds with a larger wingspan can fly for longer distances in order to migrate.  Smaller birds can fly shorter distances.

Once we measured and learned about wingspan and migration,
we were ready to learn more from the Point Pelee expert!!

We saw the path of migration of different birds...

...and the importance of places for birds to stop to rest and find food.

Many rest stops for birds are being destroyed by building, city expansion, etc. and
birds are finding it more difficult to find rest stops.
We played a game to demonstrate the importance of rest stops.

We talked about the little things we can do to help birds on their migration path...have
bird feeders in our backyards, birdbaths, and plant trees and flowers to provide food
and shelter for the birds.

Thanks Point Pelee!
