Parts of Speech

We have learned about nouns and proper nouns...so we are moving onto adjectives!
We read the story The Hickory Chair and discussed how important it is for
writers to give us a lot of details so we can better understand their message to us, the reader.
We searched for details in the book and discovered that in this story
adjectives really helped us understand the details of this story.

So...to better understand adjectives we used all of our senses to describe things in the classroom.
We heard the 'crinkly' sound of a plastic cookie tray...

...the 'soft', 'silky' feel of baking flour...

...the 'mushy' feel and 'sweet' smell of bananas...

...the 'yummy' and 'delicious' smell of a cookie...

...the 'sticky' and 'wet' feel of an orange...

I think this will help us all remember what adjectives are.
We will be writing descriptive paragraphs next week.  Watch for
your child's journal coming home in the next week or two so you can
see their descriptive paragraph.
