Dental health

We have spent some time talking about keeping our teeth clean.
Today we did an experiment to see how sugar affects our teeth.
The egg represented a tooth.  The egg shell was the tooth enamel.

One egg was put in vinegar (bacteria and sugar create acid in your mouth) over night.

Another egg was soaked in orange juice...

...one was in water...

...and another in dark coloured pop.

The egg in pop was stained brown.  The kids brushed the egg with a toothbrush...

...some stain was removed, but not all.

'It's still brown...'

The egg soaked in vinegar turned 'mushy' and 'jiggly'.
The acid ate away the egg shell (just like acid eats away at the enamel of your teeth).

Message of the day...Brush and Floss twice a day and after sugary treats!
