Mass and Capacity

The students participated in four days of hands on math experiences
about mass and capacity.  It was a ton of fun!!

We decided on some benchmarks for mass and tried to find things that had the same mass as our benchmarks.

1kg = a big bag of chocolate chip chipits

'all of this still isn't 1kg...'

'We did it!!  The Bibles have the same mass as the chipits!'

'Check the arrow to see if it's balanced...'

'let's try this one...'

'that is too light...it's not 1kg...'

'

'if 1kg is 1000g, then we can use these two 500g weights to be the bag of chipits...'

'...we need more stuff to make this side heavier...'

On to Capacity...

'How many juice boxes make 1 litre?'

'I think it's going to be 6 juice boxes...'

'If a juice box is 200mL, then we just have to figure out how
many of those make a thousand...'

'Can I have a turn?'

'Let's try this small scoop to see how many fit in 1 Litre...'

'This will take so many scoops to fill 1 Litre...'

All sorts of discoveries were made!
