The Grades 2 and 3 students have been working hard on multiplication and division.
After working at this for a few weeks, it's amazing how they are seeing
connections between addition and multiplication, and multiplication and
division. These are some of the hands-on activities we have been working on.
Making arrays...
'I have 5 groups of 6...that's 5x6=30...'
Making arrays with bingo dabbers...
'3 groups of 5 is 15...3x5=15.'
Word Problems using multiplication...
Dividing using arrays...
'There are 12 cookies shared by 4 friends...each friend gets 3 cookies!'
Division word problems...
'I have 24 cookies and 6 kids are going to share. I have 6 plates for them.
Each kid will get 4 cookies...24 divided by 6 equals 4!'
