Chapter Book Challenge

We started reading Mr. Popper's Penguins a few months ago and that began the class' love of listening to chapter books.  They looked so forward to story time when I would read a chapter aloud.  You could hear a pin drop in the classroom during this time and they always begged to hear more. 

Since then we have read 2 books in the series called Dragon Masters, written by Tracey West.  These are great chapter books for kids who are just starting to get into reading chapter books on their own.  The characters' names and the vocabulary are familiar so continuing this series would be a great fit for many of your children who are looking for something new to read (great summer reading idea).

This is what prompted the chapter book challenge in our classroom.  Your child has chosen a chapter book to read during class time and at home.  Once your child is finished reading the book, they will be working on a project to retell the story.  All of this written work will be completed at school.  Our goal is for everyone to be done their book by May 22.  Many students have already finished their book and are starting their project.  Please help your child stay on track reading a chapter each day (depending on the length of the chapters).
