After reading about the rain forest, we took a virtual tour through the Amazon.

The kids brainstormed a list of characteristics for a house appropriate for a rain forest. They came up with the following ideas...
* the house will need windows because it's so hot and they might not have air conditioning
* the roof should have a slope and a peak so the rain drips down
* the roof should hang over the edges so rain doesn't come in the windows
* the house be lifted off the ground because the ground is always wet
Once they had this under control, they got into groups to talk about their plan to build a good house for a rain forest. I was amazed at how well they worked together. They sure have come a long way in terms of solving problems, talking nicely to each other about their ideas, encouraging each other, allowing everyone to have a say, and sticking to something, even when it doesn't work out on the first try. Take a look...
