Sorting

Our first math unit is about sorting.

In the activity below the students sorted using a Venn diagram...things that had polka dots were in one circle, things with stripes were in other circle, and things with stripes AND polka dots were in the overlapping circle (in the middle).

Each day they will be doing a 'VENN vote' to help them understand that the overlapping circles are for things that have BOTH attributes.  It will also help us learn a little more about each other.

Instead of just sorting using one attribute like colour or shape, we are
 now sorting using two attributes.

'One circle has things that are green, the other one has squares.  The middle is green squares!'

'We have yellow stuff here....lots of triangles here...and the middle is for yellow triangles.'

'squares....blue stuff...the middle has only blue squares.'

TRY IT AT HOME...choose 2 attributes...
(colours, shapes, sizes (big/small))
Use your toys and see what you can do!
Example:   Trains in one pile...green things in another....green trains in the middle.

Draw it or write it down if you can.
Bring it in and get a surprise!!!
