As a way to improve our ability to make inferences about the stories we read we are using "Picture of the Day" to help us. Inferencing is our ability to 'read between the lines' and find information that isn't explicitly told to us.
Each morning, a picture is displayed and the students observe it for a few minutes to spot details. We start with 'I see statements' and simply tell exactly what we see. Then we move on to the more complex 'I think.....because' statements. This is the part that will help us make inferences in our reading and our daily lives.
Right now we are just talking about the pictures...but of course we will be writing about them soon!!!
